In the Red

Yesterday I finished the latest draft of my follow-up to Wonder Mom and Party Girl and sent the manuscript off to my publisher. To celebrate, I painted the following:

In the Red (Acrylic)

I’ve been doing a lot of sketching lately — trying to figure out perspective and how to draw hands. The hands are coming along okay. Perspective is another matter altogether. If I get the time, I hope to post some of my sketches in the near future. In the mean time, you can visit my wife’s blog to see a sketch I did of our kitchen.

  1. Read Thomas Eakins’ writing on perspective. He’s probably the greatest American draughtsman of the 19th Century.

The gist of it: imagine you’re looking at a subject through a window frame. Move slightly. This will show you how the perspective works.

It’s a little more complicated than that, but then again -not really.
