New Website!

Just a quick note to say that I have a new website. I’ll still be blogging here on WordPress, but I also wanted a single home for all of my creative interests: books, art, stories, recordings, and everything else I dabble in. To access the site, you can click on the image below or visit http://www.marcschuster.com/. Since it’s still a work in progress, I’d love any feedback anyone has to offer!

New Website

  1. Hi Marc,
Congratulations on the new site–it’s a lot of work. I’m new to your blog so don’t know that I have an in-depth feel, but a couple points do come to mind. On the website, the text on the bio is darker and doesn’t pop as well as the white text used elsewhere. If I looked at the blog and the website without knowing, I might not connect the two right off. I don’t know if there’s a way to slightly brand the blog to tie in a little more with the visual style of the website, or if that’s anything you want to do, but the website pops nicely. It’s the same issue I’m struggling with, so of course focused on it. Also, you have the blog link prominently displayed on the homepage, but I actually missed it on first pass. Maybe add a blog link to the menu bar up top as well to airhead-proof it. Great job!

    • Thank you, Laurel! That’s great advice. It should be pretty easy to fix the type on the bio page. The other two issues may take a little more work, but they should be doable (in theory, anyway). I really appreciate the feedback!

    • Thanks! I’m glad you like it. If I remember correctly, the wine was a Cotes Du Rhone chapoutier, 2009. My wife took the picture at a restaurant called La Lunchonette on a recent visit to New York.

  2. Very nicely done. I noticed you used wix to create it, so can I assume it integrates fairly easily with WordPress? My site could probably use a makeover.

    • That’s a good question… I actually set it up as a completely separate site with links on a couple of pages to my blogs, but there’s no way to integrate WordPress blogs directly into the site. It does, however, look like you can integrate Blogger and Tumblr blogs into Wix sites; maybe WordPress will join that list in the near future.

      • I just saw it and I love it. I love the colors and I love how neat and organized it is. I had no trouble finding anything, and love the balloon effect feature for the email. I always admire websites that are cool and have little surprises like that when you navigate them. It is also easy on the eyes despite the bright colors, I think because how neat it is. Congratulations again.

      • Thanks! I’m glad you liked it. I was happy with the balloon, too! Thank goodness the cover of The Grievers lends itself so readily to my web design purposes!

  3. Very classy, Marc!

Like the colors—not colors you usually see in websites, at least that *I’ve* seen. I do wonder if you could add the links to your blogs under the “MORE” menu. I know you have them under your “About” menu, but they’re not included as MENU items, which I think would be useful to catch the “casual browser.” And your menu items are not evenly spaced, if that matters, or is even correctable.

    Didn’t know about SchusterTube. Cool!

And LOVE the use of the RED BALLOON! :-]]]

All in all, quite impressed! And I see changes percolated through to your blogs sites, too. Once again I feel inadequate. Nice. ;-]

    • Thanks for the feedback, Frank! I worried initially that the red was a little too much, but I went with that painting as the background anyway since the colors complemented the cover for The Grievers. And I wish I could include links to my blogs under the “More” menu, but the service I used only lets me put links to website pages there. (Though I suspect if I weren’t such a cheapskate and sprang for something other than the free version, I’d have more options open to me!) The best I could do was put a WordPress icon at the bottom of the page to link people to this blog. The spacing of the menu items is automatic, too. I think the items are right justified, so the spaces between the slashes are uniform, if that makes sense.

      Thanks again!
